Velocette Owners Club Christmas Gathering
December 2007
Story Sue Riley
Four British Singles members were in attendance at the 2007 Velocette Owners Club Christmas gathering held on the weekend of the First and Second of December. The venue for the event was the acreage residence of Keith and Colleen Canning at Woombye, north of Brisbane in the Sunshine Coast hinterland.
The event began on Saturday afternoon, under a very overcast sky, with thirteen bikes taking part in a ride through Eudlo, Mooloolah and Landsborough to the Ettamogah Pub, for a few refreshments, before returning to Woombye via Chevullum.
Following a barbecue meal presented by Keith and Colleen the men in the group were suitably entertained by a gentleman who could only be described as eccentric, due to the fact that he is preparing a Velocette in the hope of breaking the long standing record of the world’s fastest Velocette. This record is currently held by Burt Monro, of “The World’s Fastest Indian” fame, at some one hundred and thirty eight (approx) miles per hour. The quality of the parts being incorporated into this project could only be described as incredible. His objective is to produce seventy brake horsepower from the seven hundred cubic centremetre Velocette engine, enough to propel the machine to one hundred and fifty miles per hour. We wish him all the best.
Following our tea break we turned off at D’Aguilar and proceeded over the lush green hills of Mt.Mee
and down to Dayboro before heading over Clear Mountain past the North Pine Dam. Unfortunately the
sight of this dam was less impressive, as it has not had the same input of water as Somerset Dam.
This route brought us into Aspley, where we dispersed to our homes. In all, a great day of motorcycling.
