Story by Graham Ward
For several years this rally has been held on the southern outskirts of Brisbane, but for 2008,
Ian Mould, the rally organiser, choose a north-side venue for the tenth anniversary of this event.
The site was the Dayboro Memorial Grounds with its entrance off Mt.Mee Road.
This group, who attended the first Centurion Rally,
are with the tenth anniversary cake.
BSMCC members in this group are Terry Gollagher on left, Mark Single 4th from left and myself 5th
from left.
The rally was a one-day event with nomination commencing at 8am with the ride starting at 9am. From
Dayboro we proceeded over Mt.Mee to the D’Aguilar side before turning left through Delaney’s
Creek, to connect with the Villeneuve Neurum Road. Turning right we passed the Woodford Correction
Centre on our way to Cruze Park for morning tea, with an array of cakes and slices home cooked by
Ian’s wife, Janine.
Following the tea break we proceeded along the Beerwah Road turning into Commissioners Flat and on
to Peachester Village to descend the range and swing south along the Old Gympie Road.
Elimbah was our next turning point where we swung west through the pineapple plantations to Wamuran
and Campbell’s Pocket.
A rare sight at any rally, a beautifully restored 1952 BSA A7 owned and ridden by Alan Bazeley.
.The Campbell’s Pocket Road took us back to the top of Mt.Mee through an endless amount of
bends and twists, beautiful scenery and some very steep climbs, that made the 1938 Tiger 90 give
of her all to get Sue and I to the top, as our view of Spiv’s BSA Rocket diminished in the
distance. From the top of Mt.Mee it was a gentle swing through the many bends on the southern side
whilst taking in the beautiful view of the valley on our way back to our base at Dayboro.
We were blessed with perfect spring weather for this great day, which was a credit to Ian and his
helpers.
I am already looking forward to next year’s event.
